Just two more teams will have the chance to join the team list through the final open qualifier.
Evil Geniuses and ATK have qualified for the IEM Road to Rio Americas RMR event that will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, topping the second open qualifier bracket to join twelve other teams who will be fighting for spots at the Major.
Any fears of one of the few titanic names left in North American Counter-Strike not making it through were quashed as Evil Geniuses became the first of the two teams to secure their berth, but it didn't come without hardship. The team were given trouble by Limitless in the round of 16, where Bobby "stamina" Eitrem almost led his side to a comeback from a 6-12 deficit only to fall in overtime, a gargantuan effort from Timothy "autimatic" Ta allowing EG to just scrape a win.
The team's subsequent match against TeamOne was also close as the Brazilians managed to tally thirteen rounds before losing in regulation, allowing EG through to their deciding series against BHOP. That match took only two maps to resolve, Brett "brett" Rhein's best efforts not being enough to help his team score a win as Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte powered EG to victory.
Brehze topped the qualifying series with a 1.40 rating
On the other side of the bracket, ATK moved past Unjustified before narrowly beating a Mythic mix featuring Austin "Cooper" Abadir and Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir in double overtime, setting up a qualifying series versus Strife.
The two teams traded wins on each other's map picks, ATK dominating 16-2 on Mirage and Strife securing a 16-11 victory on Overpass, leaving Vertigo as the final battleground. There, ATK dominated on the CT side to help claim victory, closing things out after a brief back and forth in the second half to qualify.
With one qualifier to go, the team list for the Americas RMR looks as follows:
